RUSSELL D. CHEESEMAN
Russ focuses his practice on planning and municipal law and has appeared on behalf of clients before the Ontario Municipal Board, the Assessment Review Board, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission, the Environmental Assessment Board, the Environmental Appeal Board and the Niagara Escarpment Commission. He regularly acts in cases involving shopping centre development, official plans, zoning by-laws, plans of subdivision and Aggregate Act matters. He also appears before various committees of adjustment and land division, in addition to planning committees and municipal councils throughout the province. In the course of his career, Russ has dealt and negotiated with politicians and provincial and municipal staff at all levels respecting settlements and agreements. He also defends individuals and corporations charged under local by-laws, the Ontario Building Code and the Niagara Escarpment Planning Development Act. Russ has presented papers at numerous seminars for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Institute and the Municipal Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association, Ontario. Called to the Bar in 1986, he received his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and has a Masters in Environmental Studies from York University with emphasis on urban planning and planning law.
